Guide Hermosillo was founded in 1700 by Juan Bautista de Escalante to protect the hispanic expansions and was given the name of Real Presidio de San Pedro de la Conquista. This state capital offers visitors the comfort of a big city but has conserved the essence of a Mexican province. The city is characterized by modern urbanism balanced with many antique provincial buildings. One to admire is the Government Palace, with beautiful historical murals, situated in front of the Morisc kiosk in the Zaragoza Plaza opposite to the the Asuncion Cathedral.

Other interesting sites to visit are:
- Holy Saint and Carmen Chapels
- Museum of the University of Sonora
- Museo de Sonora
- Casa de la Cultura
- Centro Ecologico (Regional Flora and Fauna Museum)
- La Sauceda (Recreational Park)

The main celebrations in Hermosillo are:
- Fiesta de la Vendimia (Vineyards Festival in July)
- Feria Exposicion Ganadera e Industrial (Cattle/Industrial Expo in May)
- Semana Santa Yaqui (Yaqui Dances during Easter Week)
